DESIGNER / PAMELA L. FIEDLER

I began playing the piano at age 3. It was my first introduction into the Arts. When I went off to college, I declared a double major in Music and Design.

I wanted to be a concert pianist. Sadly, this dream was cut short by the end of my first academic semester, as I couldn't stand my Music Theory Professor.

What is Graphic Design? It's clearly defined as giving meaningful, visual form to Communication. Within it, is the key ability to master Typography. I fell in love with the Rockwell Font about 15 years ago. I've had the longest relationship with it versus any other true type face font or font family. When in doubt? I always look at Rockwell first.

As technology has evolved in the past 20 years, Design has been required to keep pace with it. Within my generation social media has created our Artistic graveyards. How will the world remember us after we are no longer in it?

I work on design projects that are meaningful to me. Without this direction and connection to my work, it would feel like a day job and not my passion.

The poster is the most popular layout that a Designer must master. In America the universal size is 11 x 17 inches. Working within this space confinement is always a challenge. How does one not get stuck in the same, repetitive design strategies?

David Carson is the one who I look to for inspiration, influence, and creative edge.:

"If I'm doing a logo, I'll do it in black and white. Once the form is feeling right, only then do I start exploring the color palettes. A good example was the process of re-branding the Salvador Dali Museum. I did at least 100 versions in black and white."

Love is an endless graduation that guides our soul. I have had the honor and privilege to have wonderful mentors and guides throughout my life. Many of which, have now passed onto the next dimension. As I look back on my career, I have come to realize that the Golden Era was during my stages of development when they were all still alive and surrounding me with faith, hope, and their encouraging words of wisdom.

Some of my most endearing and powerful pieces have not been client-based. I have created cards for my friends and family my entire life. These mini designs showcase my artistic talents on a myriad of levels within mixed media. I'm not confined to digital technology and computer-generated type and image.

The pieces that I selected from my archives on this page were chosen for specific reasons. First, they are a few examples which I really enjoyed creating from start to finish.

Second, is the relationship that I had with the Creative Process. I learned something new and mastered it: looking at foreign typefaces, trying different design strategies, forcing myself to use uncomfortable colors, etc.
