2014 SOCHI WINTER OLYMPICS/ THE DOSMAAS INTERNATIONAL TRAVELER

This was a 2-year project for the athletes traveling to the Sochi Winter Olympic games in 2014. The idea for this traveling pocketbook (the size of a passport) was derived from previous Olympians and their managers who struggled to communicate when traveling in foreign airports, staying at motels, and other required destinations.

The booklet was broken into 5 chapters/ categories: Food, Beverage, Hotel, Services, and Hospital. Each category hosted a series of icons or symbols--such as toilets, train station, post office, etc. Each icon was translated on the opposite page in the ten  universal languages. There were approximately 82 different icons to the booklet. I had the opportunity to work with many different translators from across the world. A special edition of just the Russian language was also created for Sochi.

What you see on this page are excerpts from the completed book, the mini Russian edition, along with the advertising campaign. After the Olympic games ended, I was also given the proposal to expand to new hybrid--a folded pocket map with rounded corners. By using the same icons or symbols--the pocket map would feature 2 travel destinations--such as Jerusalem and Rome.
