Learning Calligraphy is comparible to learning how to type.
Once you master the basics of Fraktur, you will be capable of learning variations, and then expanding your knowledge from there.
Calligraphy isn't expensive. It consists of your calligraphy pen, paper, and ink:
> 5 x 5 blue line quad (or grid) pad
> Schaeffer Broad-Nib pen
> ink / refill cartridges for pen
> access to a copy machine

The variations of Fraktur in this book also show the beautiful patterns it can create.
