I have was very busy during the month of November & December in production on my Hanukkah Art Cards + Envelopes. This was my first time working so in depth with satin ribbons & the careful wrapping technique that were applied around the outer edge of the card. Light blues and black were my color choices for the ribbon.

I selected BLESSING 1 for Hannukah as the poetry/ saying which graces the inner card & backside. Typography consists of Calligraphy and cold-press alphabet stamps. I have 5 different alphabets to select from this year.

[the inner envelopes]--start out as blank, cream

colored envelopes with a square flap on the back.

The START OF DAVID is added first. Next, the outside

front is splatter-painted in blue tones, white & yellow.

[wet on wet/ ink application]--the amount of time that

the envelopes and cards spend drying is approximately 48

hours. The silver glitter, white, cream & gold hearts are

applied into the paint wet on wet. The white ink is very

sensitive. It dries flat matte, with a very chalky feel.

There are three blessings which are recited during Hanukkah. I chose the first one as the typographic layout to my card:

Blessed are You,

Lord our G-d,

KING of the universe,

who has sanctified us

with Your commandments,

and has commanded us

to kindle the lights

of Hanukkah.

[mechanics]  The card is constructed from 2 panel cards, which are tied together with black ribbon. This is the first part of the design & is measured to fit within the inner envelope.

[mixed media]  applications consist of Fraktur calligraphy, acrylic paints, india inks, satin ribbon, paper, glitter & cold press typographic letters.

Hanukkah began on the eve of Tuesday, December 16th, 2014. I am forever grateful it was the year for the spiritual wisdom, guidance, & support that I received from my Rabbi. Our re-connection would not have been possible without the Rabbis at Chabad. Their work at ASK THE RABBI is transforming the world. For more information on the celebration of Hanukkah-- check out all of the links that they provide at Chabad:

[individual pieces] Blessing One remains the same on all Hanukkah cards; however the creative process varies per indivdual piece. All inner envelopes are addressed.

Chanukkah, December 2017

location: TSFAT, ISRAEL --After moving to the Holy Land in October, 2015--I was fortunate to relocate to Tsfat in September of 2016. I spent the last evening of Chanukkah walking around the Old City, photographing all of the menorahs lit up on display.

Outdoor Menorah Lighting:

Tsfat, ISRAEL--I was able to attend one of the outdoor menorah lightings led by Chabad. I spent 2 hours walking around the Old City on the last night of Chanukkah.
